April Poem A Day Challenge Day 12

Wow the prompt today was a challenge for sure! Write a poem using at least three of the following six words: convict, great, play, race, season, and voice. Extra credit for using all six words. There was an extra, extra credit to write a sestina but I didn't have that in me. I couldn't help this one flowing out of me given the latest frightening headlines on violence and the pandemic. I imagine this one as a spoken word poem.

My prayer

Now is the season
At this
one of our darkest points
in history
Although one could say
we’ve been stuck
in this unholy place for
A slow awakening
that has become an urgent
of warning
Lost in our own
Laissez faire
Playing at denial
Rise up and say
With conviction
is the time
For all good humans
To use your voice
Stand up for humanity
Do it like you’re in the greatest
Race of your life
Because you are
