Poem A Day Challenge – Day 19

Today’s prompt – write a memory poem. It’s funny what we keep from our childhood:

A letter to my brothers

Remember that time
We played team tag in the creek
Spreading like our own galaxy
In its hidden crevices
Quite serious affair you know
The entire street had to play
Italians, Portuguese
They called us the mangiacakes in
our mosaic
Somehow a game spoke the same
language

Remember that time
We rode our bikes full throttle
On the wind and a prayer
From the top of a hill that felt
Like the top of the world
Bragging rights were
Failing brakes and ‘did you see
I almost landed in the creek’
We didn’t know any better
And if we did we didn’t care
We all trailed back home
When the streetlights came on
