Poem a Day Challenge – Day 9

Today’s challenge was to take the phrase“So (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write your poem. This one made me think about all the emotions you go through when your kids leave home.

So You’re Gone

You fall asleep under a separate sky
We no longer share the same
moon at night

You’ve traded your stuffed kitty
for a laptop,
People know you now
By a work password,
your unique i.d.

Not like when you were five
And we asked you how babies
were made when your little
sister came along and you said
God just throws them down
From the sky

You baked a cake today
In your own kitchen
Not so very far away
