Day 28 – April Poem a Day Challenge

Today’s prompt take the phrase “Important (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write the poem

Once again, after all the emotional writing I figured it was time to have some fun. In this poem you’ll find a little glimpse of my day job. Sometimes, I think we all need to remember that we all come from the same place.

Very Important People

They call them VIP’s
The most senior one is coming
By the way voices lower
in reverence to him
I wonder if somehow
he too can walk on water

Important date highlighted
in invitations
Only important customers
receive one

The schedule drafted
Minute by important minute
right down to the
unsweetened ice tea
that must be in the limo
between important meetings

The private plane lands
We shake hands
And as everyone makes
a fuss, talks in a hush
Double checks we’ve
ordered the right food

It strikes me that they
are just people
like me and you
