Day 26 – April Poem a Day Challenge

Today’s Two-for-Tuesday prompt over on Poetic Asides April PAD Challenge:

Write a love poem. Or…
Write an anti-love poem.

I can see you all saying “aww shucks” when you read this one – but couldn’t help myself.

How will I know she asked me
Careful I thought, these answers
mean a lot

And so I said

When the room feels empty without him in it
When you stay up all night
When the first time your hands brush
you feel a current at his touch

When he gets up before you to warm
your car on a cold winter day
When he makes your tea
just the right way

When you picture your children
and they have his eyes
When he still cracks you up even after
all this time

When he’ll do anything to protect your dignity
Like how he pretends not to notice
all the times you’re oh so clumsy

How he can make you feel like
you’re the only one
in the room
in the universe
beneath the sun

That’s how you know you’ve found your person
