Day 13 – April Poem a Day Challenge

For today’s prompt, we’re to take the phrase “Last (blank),” replace the blank with a word or phrase, make the new phrase the title of your poem, and then, write the poem. And wow, there’s a lot of powerful poems on this theme today over on Poetic Asides. Here’s mine:

The last time we met
You said I need some time
I didn’t know what that meant
Did you mean time to wander
through meadows because you
hadn’t seen enough green grass?
Or did you mean you needed
time to fly, you know
free as a bird and all that
Maybe you wanted to make a name
for yourself, play a stadium or two
see your name in lights, on billboards
There wasn’t enough of us for you

Your words made no sense
But I knew what they meant
this would be the last time we met
