Remembrance Day Poem

I wrote this one initially for Canada Day. It seems fitting on the day we should remember them.

I wonder do they smile, do they see
children run and skip, birds wingtip flight
sweet tea, flags waving at street parties
backyard patios late into the night

Do fireworks send tremors where they lay
in far off soil and godforsaken lands
in fields of flowers in winter and rain
for patriot love all thy sons command

Do they smile and nod at a job well done,
do they holler and raise a glass with glee
a mighty toast for serving us freedom
so we may stand the true north strong and free
